Ultimate Back Country E-MTB Full Day
50km Coronet Loop for fit & experienced riders.
The Coronet Loop Trail is about as remote as it gets and takes in the dramatic single track descent into Skippers Canyon, before climbing into a backcountry tableau of golden tussock, water races, old gold mining huts and river gorges. If you’re fit and competent this ride is simply not to be missed – the whole loop is 52km with over 1600m climbing so prepare for a big day out! If you prefer a lighter experience we can drive up Coronet Peak to miss the big climb at the start and take an alternative trail to skip the grade 4 Pack track and sack. Please let us know when you book if you prefer this option. We'll set off from historic Arrowtown, with the climb up to Bush Creek Saddle and a sidle around Coronet Peak water race to bring us to Skippers Saddle. Here you’ll be rewarded with your first peek into the magnificent and wild backcountry known as Skippers. The journey continues down the old pack track, used by gold miners hunting for their fortune in the Shotover River. There’s options to suit, for the exciting grade 4 Pack Track and Sack descent or the easier grade 3 original Pack Track. Our next big climb will bring us to the Greengates Saddle and a fast-flowing descent to an old gold mining hut. Continue your ride through absolutely stunning scenery – vast, golden and remote – cross streams, weave around bluffs, follow the water race and fill up your bottle in a pristine waterfall. A favourite lunch stop is the aptly named Picnic Rock – a bluffy outcrop with superb views. We'll emerge from yet another flowing descent onto the old Macetown road – a 4WD track with single track for bikers alongside, that once was the road for miners and their families who lived at the now deserted gold mining township of Macetown. From here we follow the Arrow River all the way back into Arrowtown where we guarantee you’ll be looking forward to a cold one with your name on it!
